The acclaimed Dutch violinist, Christiaan Bor, was born in Amsterdam in 1950. At the age of five, he began his violin studies with his father, Jan Bor.
The following year he made his first public appearance on Dutch television, and subsequently performed quite extensively even at this early an age. His training also included studies with Herman Krebbers at the Amsterdam Muzieklyceum and for seven years with Jascha Heifetz at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. In addition to his studies with Mr. Heifetz, Mr. Bor appeared with Jascha Heifetz and cellist Gregor Piatigorsky in “The Heifetz-Piatigorsky Concerts”.
Mr. Bor made his debut with the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam at the age of sixteen under the baton of that orchestra's music director, Bernard Haitink, in the First Violin Concerto by Sergei Prokofiev. Since that time he also appeared as soloist with the Concertgebouw Orchestra under the conductors Edo de Waart and Eugen Jochum. As one of the Netherlands' most sought after musicians, Mr. Bor has performed as soloist with orchestras, in recitals and in chamber music in 30 countries throughout Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Asia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Canada and the United States.

In 1982 Mr. Bor became the founder and music director of the Amsterdam Chamber Music Society which presents more than thirty concerts per year throughout the Netherlands. In addition to his activities with the Amsterdam Chamber Music Society and his solo and chamber music performances, Mr. Bor is the First Concertmaster of the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 1996. A prolific recording artist, he has recorded for Philips, Fidelio, Pelican, CBS Records and Vanguard Classics.
