Born in Venezuela, Arnaldo Pizzolante studied piano
with María de Urquijo and Harriet Serr in Caracas, with Susan Starr in Philadelphia, with Alfonso Montecino and Michel Block at the University of Indiana where he also studied chamber music with Joseph Gingold.
His 1978 debut as a soloist was with the Orquesta Sinfónica Venezuela (OSV), for which he has been performing as a concert pianist for more than twenty years, including three premieres in Venezuela being: the Scriabin Concerto under the musical direction of German conductor Georg Schmoehe, the "Totentanz" concerto of Franz Liszt with Venezuelan conductor Alfredo Rugeles, and the "Turangalila" of French composer Olivier Messiaen under the baton of Venezuelan director Rodolfo Saglimbeni. He has performed as a soloist with all of the many different orchestras within Venezuela, which include premieres in Venezuela of the Stravinsky concerto with the Caracas Philharmonic under the musical direction of Eduardo Marturet and the concerto for two pianos and orchestra by Vaughn-Williams, along side with Venezuelan pianist Carlos Duarte and the Municipal Symphony Orchestra.
He has also performed on numerous occasions in Venezuela and abroad with the Academic Wind Octet of Caracas, Latin America's most prestigious wind ensemble, premiering the rarely heard Nonet of Joseph Tribense and performing the Quintets for Piano and Winds of Mozart and Beethoven, of which the latter was recorded with the principal soloists of the Octet.
Internationally, he was a guest soloist with the Contemporary Music Group of the University of Indiana, the National Symphony of Costa Rica and the Symphony Orchestra of El Salvador. Pizzolante has continued to perform solo recitals and chamber music in the U.S., Mexico, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Colombia, Italy and Curaçao.
At present, he is professor of piano at the Aragua State Conservatory and is the pianist of Venezuela's oldest and most important symphony orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica Venezuela, for which he is a featured soloist in the OSV's special 70th Anniversary cd with recordings of the Concerto in G by M. Ravel and the Concerto in D minor for two pianos and orchestra by F. Poulenc, along with noted Venezuelan pianist Edith Peña. |
